HCR debate just started on the Senate floor, and Mike Enzi is already being a douchenozzle. A reenactment:

REID: A unanimous consent request.

ENZI: Objection.

REID: A second consent request.

ENZI: A second objection.

REID: Okay… well, moving on.

ENZI: But I want to explaaaaain my objections; you cut me off.

REID: Sorry dawg, go ahead.

ENZI: Too late, now I am too upset to voice my concerns.

And scene. I wish I knew more about this process because I can’t tell the difference between posturing — Enzi’s consensus objections — and an actual wave-making maneuver. There is so much that has got to be choreographed ahead of time, and the mixture of blustering, slobbering, self-flagellation, and self-adulation makes the speech-making at once enthralling and exhausting. Mix in all the complicated procedural stuff, and it’s almost impossible to tell what is actually happening.

The last time I watched Less Than Zero, it was playing at Camp after Rules of Attraction as part of an Easton Ellis double-feature. It was after midnight and during someone’s birthday party, so the audio wasn’t there, but that didn’t really matter with RDJ, Andrew McCarthy, and Mr. Spader reifying lines like “Do you know that you girls have televisions between your legs?”

Well, Camp is now yards away, LTS is a staple of their VHS collection, and Mr. Scary is in full effect. I smell trouble.

After a visit to the Brooklyn Bridge Flea Market Sunday afternoon, I stopped with a friend to get a slice at the pizza spot on Front Street. You walked in and you were definitely Ryan Gosling. Not some dude who looked like Ryan Gosling, but Ryan Gosling himself. And I although I had tomato sauce on my chin and garlic salt all over my shirt and strings of cheese hanging from my mouth, I am pretty sure it was love at first sight.

Mr. Rosen of the Piedmont Studio said that yoga contests could spread the perception that people with the most flexible limbs were the best yogis. “Unfortunately, yoga has been conflated with asana, which is a huge misapprehension,” he said. “If the people who are winning asana competitions are suddenly being seen as more yogic than others, that’s a really bad comparison to make.”

Mr. Gans of the United States Yoga Federation said he understood that point of view but added that the best way to teach people about the many facets of yoga was to get them into the studio, something he thought championships could do.

“When I was a kid, I played tennis, and whenever I watched players on Wimbledon I’d want to get out there and play like them,” Mr. Gans said. “It inspired me. I’m hoping the same kind of things will happen here.”
