You wouldn't use "by way of introduction" to introduce yourself. You would use it to give some preliminary information about yourself. For example "Our speaker today is one of the foremost explorers in his field. By way of introduction, let me only say that thanks to this man, the ark of the convenant is in safe hands - ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Indiana Jones".
