Arthur Q. Davis - Rivergate, New Orleans 1968. One of the worst architectural crimes in New Orleans’ history was the demolition of this building in 1995 to make room for this monstrosity. A feat of architectural and engineering genius, the massive, waving double-barreled vaulted roof of this multipurpose hall referenced the sinuous route and strong current of the adjacent Mississippi river. As the post-Katrina city continues to rebuild, other modernist gems from the same era have been dealt a similar fate.
Guilt reflux. Thanks again, Harrah’s.
